What I Do

Parent Consultation & Coaching

I find that parent coaching and consultation often helps to solve many child concerns.  After all, your kids don’t come with a manual, and every child is very different-even ones in the same family! In this approach, we will discuss your concerns, what you’ve tried, and what worked and didn’t work.  Some of our work will involve new strategies to try or new ways of thinking.

Raising children can also bring up both practical parenting struggles and emotional hurdles related to one's own upbringing and life experiences. I help parents understand what might be getting in the way of parenting effectively. We can explore and address these areas so that you can raise your children with confidence and connection.

Child & Parent Therapy

Child therapy can help improve parent-child relationships, promote social-emotional skills, and support developmental challenges. I'm trained in both research-based cognitive-behavioral treatments as well as psychodynamic play and talk therapy. My work with children is always integrative, flexible, and playful!  I seek to gain a child's trust and collaboration by appreciating who they are as an individual.

Parents also have a vital role in their child's therapy. My sessions may involve seeing parents and children together, working with parents outside of the child's sessions, or sometimes just working with parents without the child involved.

I also provide short-term therapy for parents who are struggling with issues such as major life adjustments, parenting stress, or postpartum depression or anxiety. In our initial consultation, we will discuss what will be best for you and your family.

SPACE (Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions)

SPACE is a treatment for children with anxiety that is delivered via parents or caregivers. SPACE is a 12-week program that can be done virtually or in-person and has been shown to be as effective as individual therapy for anxiety. Children with anxiety often avoid the things they are afraid of. In turn, parents often accomodate the child's anxiety, which can end up inadvertently reinforcing their fears. SPACE helps parents gently and slowly change their patterns of accommodating behavior so that children can learn skills for cope effectively with their anxious feelings. Collaborative & Proactive Solutions

CPS is an evidence-backed intervention for reducing behavioral challenges in children. It involves guided collaboration between parents and children to reduce conflict and build children's problem-solving skills.

Infant/Early Childhood Assessment

For parents who are struggling to understand the root of their child’s behavioral or developmental issues, I offer clinical assessment and diagnostic guidance. This may involve meeting with parents over several sessions, speaking with a child’s school, daycare, or pediatrician, and getting to know a child through play and observation. While I do not offer formal testing, I incorporate outside evaluations (e.g., EI, CPSE) with clinical assessment tools to arrive at a holistic understanding of your child that can help clarify diagnoses and provide a roadmap for treatment.

School Consultation

I am available to contract with preschool and early childhood programs to provide consultation for professionals working with children and parents. This can include classroom observation, recommendations for teachers, and support for program administrators. I can also provide trainings for staff or parents on various topics in infant and early childhood mental health and development.

  • How do I know if I need parent consultation or if my child needs therapy?
We will talk over the phone or during the initial consultation about what makes sense for you and your child.
  • Do you take insurance?
I do not accept insurance directly; however, I can provide paperwork you can submit to your insurance company for out-of-network reimbursement, depending on your plan. Many clients also pay through their FSA/HSA accounts.
  • What are your fees?
Please call or email to discuss fees for consultation and therapy.
  • Do you work virtually or in person?
I offer in-person sessions or virtual sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays in my office in Brooklyn Heights and virtual-only sessions on Mondays and Wednesdays. I do parent consultations virtually or in person. Child therapy is offered in person only.
